Pericles Commission: the cover version

About two years ago, the brilliant young assistant to a certain literary agent pulled my query from the slush pile. She thought it looked okay.

Now here she is, Joanna Stampfel-Volpe, holding the cover of the end result.

Thanks Jo!

Very, very sharp!

She certainly is, and an agent herself now at Nancy Coffey. Joanna's very first sale went to auction! Janet was jealous.

Joanna has a permanent place on the Dartboard of Envy! She's a terrific agent and I'm proud to be her colleague.

She not only spotted Gary's query and pages, she worked with him through two polishing ups; countless reads and then actually suffered a vegemite bite!

Joanna totally rocks!

Vegemite. The ultimate sacrifice.

Yay, Joanna! I remember reading that initial post of Janet's about the mysterious unreachable Gary character with the awesome query, and being SO intrigued. I can't wait to read the end result!

Thanks Julie, and yep, you've been there all the way. I hope the final result makes the journey worthwhile!

Nevets: Vegemite, the ultimate ambrosia.

Joanna is on my Dartboard of Can-Never-Say-Thanks-Enough.

Not only did she take me through edits on Pericles Commission, but she did same for Ionia Sanction, when she was long gone from the process and did it because basically she's just so nice.

Eek! I knew Janet was up to something when she asked me to hold up the cover....

Gary, I couldn't be happier for you! I love, love, love this book so much. The next one, too! You've got a life long fan here, so you better keep writing. Or else. I know sharks in high places....

I'll admit I haven't tried vegemite since I was 13. A few tastes have changed sine then, and perhaps I owe it a second try...

Gary Corby said...

Hi Nevets, since Vegemite began life as the salty stuff at the bottom of beer barrels, I doubt your tastes have changed enough to make it palatable. Oh well!

Joanna, I better keep writing then. I don't fear life as shark bait, but I'd hate to disappoint you!

What a great story and awesome photograph. How encouraging to see both author and assistant turned agent succeeding in leaps in bounds at the same time!

Thanks Gail! Yes, it's been an amazing time.

Hi moonrat,

Glad you like it. I don't actually have a herm outside my house, but for the amount of good luck I've had, you'd think I had a whole row of them.

What a great cover! I mean, ever since we saw the art I knew it was, but it just looks AWESOME! Congratulations, Gary! And the time is nearly upon us!! (PLEASE tell me you aren't going to be showing up in NYC the weekend I'm going out of town in the opposite direction! I do not want to miss you!)
