Adobe Reader: source of eternal eyestrain

Seriously, Adobe Corp, is this the best you can do with non-English characters?

The jpeg below is a screenshot of a PDF file as displayed on my good quality LCD screen, using the latest version of Adobe.  This same file  used to work just fine, but I've noticed in the last two or three versions of Adobe reader that the character quality is getting worse and worse.  The weird thing is, when you scroll the file, the characters suddenly go back into focus (sort of), but the moment you stop scrolling, the words slowly blur before your eyes.

It's a rendering issue, but since previous versions work perfectly well, the obvious solution is to revert to a much older version.

They obviously need to put a new cartridge in their printer or photocopier, as the case may be.

If that's Adobe 10, you're not alone. We ditched it and went back to 9 promptly, for different issues, but I'll avoid updating to 10 until it's absolutely necessary or I can skip and go right to 11. :-/

That's terrible! But then again, reading anything on a backlit LCD, unless you have to, is not wise in the first place.

Hi Matthew,

I've spent decades reading backlit CRTs and LCD screens and unlike most people it's never particularly bothered me. I also have the typing posture from hell, but I've never had RSI. I guess I'm blessed in that one tiny regard. Adobe's beaten me though.

You're right, CP, it's adobe 10, but I began to notice this in version 9, so right now I'm thinking version 8 is a safe refuge.

It seems every time I update something - anything - it causes no end of headaches and problems. I keep getting threats from Yahoo, Twitter, and OpenOffice among others about the catastrophe waiting to befall me if I don't update NOW. By my calculations, I'm about 2 years behind...and everything works just fine. *fingers crossed*

Adobe products have been on my vito list for a few years now, especially Acrobat.

I find Foxit is great for what I need, which is the occassional eye-balling of a pay slip and digging into poorly documented APIs. :-)

li, yes, the only potential problem is getting hit by a virus that exploits a weakness in the older version, but as long as you're careful, I suspect you're better off.

Hey Ducas. Good idea. I'll see if Foxit can cope.

That is... amazingly, awesomely spectacularly bad.

Wow.
