It certainly looks closely reasoned.

The person you really need to convince on this is Professor Eugene Borza, because he wrote the book I quoted.

Everyone who's looked into it closely seems to agree Alexander could not have competed at the Olympics of 460BC, despite the surprisingly large number of web site which state that was his date.

That's the essential point for me. I'm writing a series of mysteries set in Classical Greece. The third book takes place at the 460 Olympics, where a terrible thing will happen to one of the contestants.

If Alexander had been there in 460, I would have involved him as a character in my story, which would have been wonderful, but sadly, since he wasn't there in 460, I can't.Gary Corbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14759372069119740227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-524039117682127217.post-25740994260820477742010-04-10T23:09:47.485+10:002010-04-10T23:09:47.485+10:00Gary the below article might help you.

Life as a fantasy fiction writer is much easier; I get to create my own history ... mostly.

Questions about Alexander I's regnal dates are not new. Without citing sources, Edward Farr (1850) said:

"Alexander now succeeded to the throne. After the overthrow of the Persians at Platea, however, Macedonia virtually recovered its independence although it was never recognized by the Persian kings. Alexander was obliged to accompany the Persian army into Greece but he was able on several occasions to render important services to the Grecian cause. … The time of the death of Alexander I is uncertain. Some authors say that he reigned forty three years and it is known that he lived to B c 461 when Cimon recovered Thasus."

Have you looked at John Shae’s Macedonia and Greece: the struggle to define a new Balkan nation? (1997)I think you want to check about page umm 64.

M. V. Sakellariou gives a possible date of 496 BCE for the Olympiad.

Umm also check Apostolos Vasileiou Daskalakēs' The Hellenism of the ancient Macedonians (1965). And ... The letter of Speusippus to Philip II, By Anthony Francis Natoli. (2004).

Is any of this helping???

Big research hint: books.google.com.

Using google books shaved five years off research time for the history book my writing partner and I have coming out this year.

I'm lonely over on my blog.
